Hunger striker Irom Sharmila Chanu has been rearrested by Porompat police hardly three days after she was released from jail.
She was later remanded to judicial custody till December 8 next year by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal.
Sharmila was rearrested after she continued her fast at the Porompat PDA Complex after her release by the Government.
She was picked up from her place of dharna at 7 this morning.
Two other women had joined her in the hunger strike.
She was arrested on a reference FIR No 268 (11) 2001 Porompat police station, u/s 309 IPC (attempt to commit suicide), case records said.
Later this morning, the hunger striker was produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal.
After perusing the case diary, the CJM Mangtinlal Haokip allowed her to go on bail by furnishing PR bond of Rs 3000 with a surity of the same amount.
However she refused to endorse it.
The court then remanded her to judicial custody till December 8 next.
It may be mentioned that Sharmila had completed one year of fast demanding removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 from the State.
Meanwhile, Amuba Ain Louthonknaba Taksinbada Tengbangba Nupisingi Apunba Lup has termed the re-arrest of Sharmila as undemocratic.
In a statement, it has also deplored the manner in which the hunger striker was released without informing her family.
The organization reiterated its call for the general strike on November 26 and sought support from all sections of the people.
